Marlow Country Garden

Project type:

Large residential

Landscaper:

Design only

Nestled in a rural valley near Marlow, the client wanted a multi-purpose garden which would cater for large-scale entertaining and outdoor fun for children, with an emphasis on linking the surrounding chalk-based hills with ancient woodland and meadow to the property.

At the front of the residence, the borders were re-shaped to separate the drive from the football area.

In the back garden, the garage was visually separated from the property using hedging, creating a more secluded courtyard for the master bedroom. On the other side of the property, an outdoor cinema/snug was created. Steps to match the width of the large sliding doors, were added to the back of the property, leading to a large outdoor kitchen and dining terrace with a firepit area. Planting around this terrace softened the hard landscaping close to the house and brought the feeling of nature and meadowland towards the house.

Further up the garden, the swimming pool was softened through the introduction of planters and wood cladding on the white rendered walls. The garden beyond was connected through stepping stones and sweeping planting beds leading to the existing stable block and pergola. In the design, this was converted into an outdoor gym area.

Beyond the stable block, the challenging slope at the back of the property was used to create interesting level changes with a terrace for sunset viewing, curved meadows and native hedging for definition, an outdoor active trail and a treehouse. The woodland was brought into the garden to soften the transition.
