Marlow Town Garden

Project type:

Long and Narrow Town Garden

Landscaper:

PBC Landscapes

For this traditional Edwardian property, we seamlessly blended formal elements with a modern design aesthetic. Starting from a simple lawn and empty terrace, we reimagined the space by creating multiple distinct ‘rooms’ using raised beds, elegant trellises, and a stylish pergola. This thoughtful design strategy transformed the previously long and narrow garden into a dynamic space that invites exploration and discovery, enhancing both its perceived size and functionality. The new layout also provides separation and privacy from the neighbours right of way, adding a sense of enclosure and tranquillity.

Central to the design was the integration of cherished features, including an inherited water feature, existing pots, comfortable seating, and a functional BBQ area. A new, client-selected shed replaced the old one, and a portion of the lawn was maintained for Ella, the beloved family dog. The existing terrace and fencing were preserved, refreshed, and enhanced with new additions to harmonize with the overall aesthetic.

Towards the garden's rear, low-maintenance planting beds and sculptural lollipop trees soften the boundaries, adding privacy and elegance. A dedicated raised bed area, discreetly tucked behind a trellis, awaits the planting of vegetables and fruits, marrying practicality with visual appeal and creating a delightful garden retreat.

Working with Rachel and her team has been pure joy. Her ability to visualise and create wonderment from a vague brief from us, her attention to detail, her knowledge of flowers and planting, communication, care and organisation from start to finish of our project, have been outstanding. We've felt in safe and knowledgeable hands throughout. Nothing was too much trouble and suffice to say we are over the moon with the results. Rachel and her team literally transformed a long streak of nothingness to a garden of immense interest, beauty and one we couldn't be more proud of. We would not hesitate to recommend Rachel and RP Garden Design and would use them again ourselves in a heart beat.
